My Lobster Dissection to Calculate Calories
I love lobster! So on my recent vacation to Martha’s Vineyard, I decided I would indulge in a 2 pound lobster. I know that lobster is a great choice to order in a restaurant. However I had always been a little curious as to how much lobster meat was actually in a lobster as well as the nutritional content. Now this meant bringing a food scale to the restaurant and “dissecting” the lobster. Luckily my dining companions (my parents) were used to my antics. Check out my Lobster Dissection video and find out if lobster is a good choice to order in restaurants.

My final word on lobsters:
1. Lobster is a great choice – low in calories and fat
2. It is much lower in cholesterol than other shellfish such as shrimp
3. My 2 pounds lobster yielded 8 ounces of edible meat
4. Limit the butter! That little container has 400 calories … yikes! Squeeze lemon on the lobster and use the butter sparingly
5. A whole lobster may not be the best first date food … kind of messy
6. Lobster is a great choice for those people trying to lose weight. Not only is it low in calories, it takes a long time to eat!
7. Make sure you have the proper “lobster eating utensils” (a cracker and a pick). Most restaurants would obviously provide you with these tools. However we were at a casual place where you eat outside on picnic tables. They cracked the lobster for you … but I still had a difficult time getting the meat out.
