Do You Have a “Bloated Steakhouse Belly”?

Want to grow a big belly ASAP? Eat out in a steakhouse 2 times a month. This can lead to a 17 pound weight gain a year.
Chances are that most of you have eaten in a steakhouse at one time or another. Living in NYC, I find that many of my clients frequent these establishments on a regular basis for business. And usually when you are in a steakhouse … you aren’t eating steamed fish and broccoli. Just the word “steakhouse” conjures up images of giant juicy steaks with fattening sides.
So how bad can a steakhouse meal really be?
Martini before dinner: 240 cal
Buttered roll while waiting for dinner: 250
cal
The “wedge” (iceberg lettuce loaded with blue cheese dressing): 540 cal
22 oz Bone-In Ribeye: 1290 cal
Creamed spinach: 410 cal
Mashed potato: 420 cal
Wine: Frequent pours during dinner – estimate 3 glasses: 375 cal
This tasty artery clogging meal comes to 3525 calories without dessert!
Let’s see how this can affect your weight:
Maybe you had a bowl of oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar for breakfast (350 cal), a container of OJ (245 cal), a chicken caesar wrap for lunch (~ 700 cal) , 1 1/2 oz bag of pretzels for a snack (165 cal). Now you are up to 1460 calories before your steakhouse meal. Add those calories and you are up to a whopping …
Total calories for the day: 4985 calories (and I didn’t even count the total or saturated fat which would be through the roof!)
Here is the math: The average moderately active male needs ~ 2200-2400 calories to maintain weight, while a female needs ~ 1800 – 2000 to maintain weight. (This is an average as some people can eat more while others need to consume fewer calories). So take a typical guy who need 2400 calories to maintain his weight. He has now consumed 2585 calories in excess of his caloric needs. So if he ate this meal only twice a month, he would gain 17 pounds a year! Many of my clients have these kinds of meals weekly … of course, once they start to work with me, this will change DRAMICALLY!
