Check Out What’s in My Kitchen (video)

What does a nutritionist keep in her kitchen? Does she practice what she preaches? Or is she secretly devouring cocoa puffs and cookies? I decided to do an expose on what’s in my kitchen – both in the refrigerator  and cabinets. This is an honest show and tell … no running to health food store to stock on tofu and hemp seed!  Check out my video on what’s in my kitchen.

 My Kitchen Expose

Refrigerator

Eleven  bottles of salad dressing (yikes … this is a little embarassing). Guess I am a bit obsessed with Paul Newman’s Light Sensations. My new favorite is Cranberry Walnut. Two bottles of spray butter, several bottles of flavored mustard, 8 bottles of other condiments like ketchup, hot sauce, faijata sauce, bbq sauce, whole milk, nonfat flavored coffee creamer, flaxseed, one apple, rotten baby carrots, grated cheese, olives, raspberries,  pomegrante seeds, chicken broth, a bottle of sake and 2 bottles of white wine. * I noted many bottles of condiments had been there for over a year … so I threw them out!

Freezer:
Frozen spinach, butternut squash, 2 Amy’s frozen dinners, edemame … I noted that the is in need of defrosting. It is a old fashioned miniature freezer that needs to be manually defrosted with pans of hot water (ok – this is embarrasing too…)

Cabinets:
Fiber one cereal, whole wheat pasta, millet, farro, textured vegetable protein, olive oil, several kinds of flavored vinegar, soy sauce, many spices and vitamins, coffee

My notations:
– I work long hour and often don’t get home until 10 pm from gym. I’m not going to start cooking at that hour, so I often rely on “easy to prepare” dinners.
– My minimal counter space makes it difficult to cook
– This little kitchen expose had revealed that I am the condiment queen! Salad dressings, condiments, vinegars, etc.
– You may notice that I don’t have many snack foods in my apartment. This is because I don’t have  lot of control with sugary foods like chocolate, cookies, frozen yogurt, etc. While I certainly allow myself a real dessert on occasion (something chocolately of course), I have found that it’s best for me not to keep it in my apartment. It turns my “sugar brain” on!

9 Foods that will ALWAYS be in my kitchen:   2% Greek yogurt, regular milk, coffee, Fiber one cereal, fresh or frozen berries, ground flaxseed, Paul Newmans Light Sensation salad dressing., eggs and butter spray.
