Watch Martha on Fox 5 News

If any of you happened to have your television tuned in to Fox 5 News on Thanksgiving day at 2:50 pm, you would have seen me making an appearance. Yeah – and they even put up citygirlbites blog under my name on the screen!  I was interviewed live by the two anchors, Casey Stegall and Harris Faulkner. We talked about the calories consumed on a typical Thanksgiving Day (4500 calories). One of the anchors, Harris (in the pic below), had quite a bit of energy and was jogging in place during some of our interview. I told her that she would have to run approximately  1 1/2 marathons to burn off 4500 calories!
The employees at Fox News who had to work that day received a Thankgiving meal containing white meat turkey, gravy, stuffing, corn, mashed potato, sweet potato, cranberry sauce along with a salad. If you watch the video, you will see a picture of the meal. The portion sizes were quite moderate – not like the amounts of food I would have consumed if I were back in Massachusetts with my family! I therefore estimated the calories to be ~ 1600 or so. Not too bad.

We also talked about the importance of eating something light a few hours before the actual meal. This will help to raise blood sugar and may help reduce overeating (at least somewhat!) . This is an important strategy to use during the holiday season when we have more parties and holiday dinners.
