Feeling Overwhelmed by Conflicting Health Advice?

You’ve tried the low-carb diet your friend swore by. You’ve followed the latest wellness influencer’s advice. You’ve read countless articles about what you should and shouldn’t eat. Yet here you are, still confused, still frustrated, and still not seeing the results you hoped for.

What works for someone else might not work for you. We all have different metabolisms, genetics, lifestyles, activity levels, and even gut microbiomes. That’s exactly why I’m here. I help you cut through the noise and create a personalized, science-backed plan that actually works for your unique body and lifestyle.

Hi, I’m Martha McKittrick.

I’m a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist, and GLP-1 Optimization Certified Practitioner with over 20 years of experience helping people feel empowered in their health without the extremes or confusion.

Originally from Massachusetts, I earned my degree in nutrition from the University of Massachusetts and completed my dietetic internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where I later became a staff dietitian. Those years gave me a deep foundation in cardiovascular, endocrine, and gastrointestinal care and a firsthand understanding of how nutrition can transform lives.

Over time, my work has expanded from hospital settings to corporate wellness programs and digital health platforms like WebMD. In each chapter of my career, my goal has been the same: to make evidence-based nutrition practical, personal, and sustainable.

I first became interested in metabolic health over 20 years ago after working with my first client, who had PCOS. She was doing everything “right”. She ate consciously, exercised regularly, and followed all the advice she had been given. Still, her weight kept climbing, her energy was depleted, and she felt increasingly discouraged. Lab work showed she was headed toward type 2 diabetes. Health professionals dismissed her concerns. She was left feeling hopeless and alone in her struggle. It was heartbreaking for me to watch her journey unfold in this way.

Determined to help, I dove into the research and discovered that insulin resistance was a key driver of her symptoms. And when I say, “I dove into the research,” I mean I went as deep as you could go because that is just the kind of person I am. We worked together to adjust her nutrition, shift her exercise approach, and build supportive lifestyle habits. Over time, her energy improved, she began to lose weight, her blood sugar stabilized, and perhaps most importantly, she felt validated and empowered for the first time in years. This was a big win for her and for me.

That experience opened my eyes to how often metabolic issues go unrecognized. It shaped the foundation of my work. I now specialize in helping people understand and improve their metabolic health. I’ve spoken nationally on topics such as metabolic health, PCOS, and heart health. I’ve written extensively on these subjects, including a book on type 2 diabetes – The Type 2 Diabetic Cookbook & Action Plan: A Three-Month Kickstart Guide for Living Well with Type 2 Diabetes and contributions to the book Patient’s Guide to PCOS: Understanding—and Reversing—Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Fifteen years ago, I founded Martha McKittrick Nutrition to offer the kind of care I wished more people had access to: personalized guidance, real accountability, and support that adapts to your life. My concierge-style approach blends nutrition, lifestyle coaching, and real-time support so you’re never alone on your journey toward lasting health.

My Story of Burnout to Balance

When I first moved to New York City, I thrived on the pace. I loved the energy, the ambition, and the sense that anything was possible if I worked hard enough. For a while, I did it all. I ran a private practice, taught fitness classes, said yes to every opportunity, and built a life that looked full and vibrant from the outside.

Inside, something very different was happening.

I was living in constant overdrive. Every workout had to be intense. I ate most meals on the go. I slept poorly and rarely slowed down long enough to check in with myself. I told myself I was healthy because I was moving, working, and producing. Yet internally, I was anxious, exhausted, and dealing with persistent heartburn and chronic pain. My life looked balanced, but it did not feel balanced.

Eventually, my body stopped asking me to slow down and started insisting.

The heartburn, the insomnia, and the injuries became part of my everyday reality. These were symptoms I regularly helped my clients navigate, and I remember feeling embarrassed and frustrated. How could I be teaching others about health while ignoring what was happening in my own body. At the same time, the idea of slowing down felt unfamiliar and uncomfortable. I worried that rest would mean falling behind.

Then came the moment I could not ignore. Three surgeries, multiple tendinopathies, and countless hours in physical therapy forced me to face the truth. Something had to change.

Slowly, I began rebuilding my relationship with health. I swapped punishing cardio for balanced movement. I resisted yoga at first because it felt too slow, but eventually I found quiet in my mind and comfort in my body. I discovered that a brisk walk through Central Park restored me more than a seven mile run ever did. I cooked at home more often, cut back on caffeine and alcohol, and began paying attention to how I felt rather than how much I was doing.

As my habits shifted, everything else shifted too. My heartburn disappeared. My sleep improved. My mind felt calmer and clearer. For the first time in a long time, I felt present in my own life.

This experience changed how I live and it also changed how I practice.

I became deeply committed to helping people build health in a way that supports long term vitality, energy, and aging well. I began looking beyond symptoms and became fascinated by what is happening beneath the surface in the body. This led me to focus on metabolic health.

Today, only about seven percent of Americans are considered metabolically healthy. That means most people are walking around with blood sugar, cholesterol, or blood pressure levels outside the optimal range even if they have never received a diagnosis. Many feel tired, anxious, or confused by symptoms that do not make sense.

My mission is to change that.

You deserve a life that does not just look healthy on the outside but feels nourishing and aligned on every level.

Through personalized nutrition, education, and sustainable lifestyle strategies, I help people build lives that feel balanced, resilient, and supportive. No extremes. No perfectionism. Only real, science-backed practices that help you feel your best inside and out.

I'm Your Health Detective.

I don’t just hand you a meal plan and wish you luck. Instead, I take an investigative approach that digs into the “why” behind what’s not working. Together, we’ll explore your unique situation, your labs, your symptoms, your lifestyle, and your health history.

Investigate & Understand

This isn’t a one-way conversation where I tell you what to do and you follow orders. We work together as a team. I bring my expertise and clinical experience, and you bring your knowledge of your body and your life. Together, we’ll create a personalized roadmap that fits your real life, helping you feel empowered and in control of your health.

Focus on Addition, Not Restriction

Unlike restrictive diets that tell you what you can’t eat, I focus on what we can add to support your health. Adding the right nutrients can have a powerful impact, from lowering cholesterol and blood sugar to supporting weight loss, energy, and long-term wellness. This approach is sustainable, nourishing, and far more enjoyable than constant deprivation.

Concierge-Level Access & Support

Life doesn’t just happen during our sessions. That’s why my clients have direct access to me between visits via email and text. Whether you have a quick question, hit a roadblock, or need guidance in a real-life situation, you won’t be left waiting or guessing. I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Willing to Think Outside the Box

If something isn’t working, we’ll pivot. I’m not afraid to experiment and try creative solutions tailored specifically to you. I’m patient, curious, and committed to finding what works for your unique body, even if it takes some trial and error.

Science-Backed, Not Trend-Based

With over 20 years of clinical experience and thousands of successful client transformations, I provide evidence-based guidance that’s grounded in science, not the latest fad. I stay up-to-date on current research and tools (like interpreting CGM data or answering nuanced questions about intermittent fasting), so you can trust that you’re getting the most accurate, unbiased information.

My Specialities

Over the years, I’ve worked with clients facing a wide range of health challenges. While no two people are the same, these are the areas where I’ve seen clients make the biggest transformations with the right guidance:

A Little More About Me

Like many of my clients, I juggle a busy life. I know what it’s like to grab food on the go, struggle to get enough sleep, and manage stress while trying to stay healthy. That’s why I focus on practical strategies that fit into real life, not rigid rules or fad diets.

When I’m not working with clients, you can find me:

Cycling over the George Washington Bridge (yes, my gear always matches my bike. Priorities!)
Weight training and trying to lift heavy, while playing “whack-a-mole” with midlife tendinopathies
Listening to health podcasts at the gym (probably the only one tuned into an episode on IBS during squats)
Geeking out over health tech like CGMs and Oura Rings
Savoring dark chocolate (even dietitians have a sweet tooth!)
Trying to improve my sleep hygiene – mostly by cutting back on late-night scrolling and Netflix binges (easier said than done!)
